Public Facing Description

QA was commissioned to design the new corporate headquarters for New Relic, the fast-growing industry leader in Data Analytics for App Monitoring. Custom pen Collaborative Areas are located in the floor’s corners for quick informal meetings and impromptu mini-workstations for staff visiting other departments. The most dynamic space within the four full floors of offices is the large Café and All Hands Area that accommodates informal meetings, all-office presentations, and interactive interoffice social functions. The palette for New Relic was derived from the image invoked by its name- the juxtaposition of old and new, modern and decayed. Using reclaimed old growth elm, the wood is mingled amongst flamed steel walls, perforated metal panels and colorful furniture to create a warm, lively, and inviting work place.

We are honored and excited that our design for the New Relic Headquarters was selected by the SF Business Times as one of the top "10 Coolest Offices in the Bay Area 2018."

Internal Project Description:

QA was commissioned to design the Interior Architecture Tenant Improvements for the New Relic Headquarters Building on the top floors of 188 Spear Street. The base contract included a program for two and a half of the tenant buildings's twelve floors. New Relic was growing significantly during the design phases of the project which prompted them to lease additional space, for a total of four floors. The additional space was designed during construction of the first two floors under a task-based contract that was completed within a very aggressive schedule. Additional team members were brought in, as needed, to ensure prompt execution of design and delivery of documentation.

QA was commissioned to design the new corporate headquarters for New Relic, the fast-growing industry leader in Data Analytics for App Monitoring. To provide various teams access to constantly variable information throughout the day, we designed a custom, continuous soffit system running around the perimeter of the building core, housing monitors displaying application analysis information and sales performance in real-time. The framework allows for the addition or relaocation of monitors to accommodate the movement of teams or entire departments. Private offices were located adjacent to the core so that open office areas are afforded access to the window line for light and views. Custom Open Collaborative Areas are located in the floor's corners for quick informal meetings an impromptu mini-workstations for staff visiting other departments. The most dynamic space within the four full floors of offices is the larg e Cafe and All-Hands Area that accommodates informal meetings, all-office presentations and interactive interoffice social functions.

Design Challenges & Innovations:

Branding & Graphics
For the New Relic Headquarters at 188 Spear, QA seamlessly integrated brand and architecture by using the implication of the company's actual name as the basis for all design decisions. With the playful juxtaposition of "New" and "Relic" (old reclaimed wood experienced throughout the space), the resultant branded environment is a unified visual identity with a rich palette of materials and colors that complement and enhance their integrated brand experience. The overall emotional connection of the end-users is visceral.
